What "made with ChatGPT or Codex" means
ChatGPT is OpenAI's chat assistant. Codex is its coding agent. OpenAI launched Codex CLI on 16 April 2025, describing it to TechCrunch as "a lightweight, open source coding agent that runs locally in your terminal". A month later it introduced a cloud version of Codex, where "each task runs in its own cloud sandbox environment, preloaded with your repository".
Creators on this page use one or more of these. Some plan a game in ChatGPT and build it in Codex, while others simply name the GPT model they used. Every game here has public proof, and the tool the creator names shows on its tag.
A short history
In early vibe coding, ChatGPT was often the helper on the side. When Pieter Levels found his flight sim was full of duplicate functions, he asked ChatGPT to find them all.
By 2026 OpenAI's tools were building whole jam games. At Vibe Jam 2026, WenWare took third place and the Most Played award, and Almost Surgery won Most Cursed (winners). Both are listed with GPT models on the directory Viber Cove (WenWare, Almost Surgery). Another entrant, @fortunesayspump, built a jet combat game "using codex (GPT 5.4/5.5)" and "Spent most of the time optimizing performance".
Many creators mix tools. @alistairmcleay built the second version of Flyover, a flight sim "inspired by @levelsio" where you can fly anywhere on Earth, with both companies' new models on launch day:
“Speedran this in ~1hr using Opus 4.6 and GPT-5.3 since they both shipped today!”
How creators build games with ChatGPT and Codex
A lot of these games come from people who do not call themselves developers:
“I'm not a developer, but I made a browser game with ChatGPT + Codex.”
Others are refreshingly honest about what they made. @Shakalicioili5 introduced Daily Gambit this way: "Maybe it's AI slop, but for me, it's a proof of concept and the fulfillment of a childhood dream of making a game that feels like the sequel to chess."
Three.js comes up again and again. @bigkeysmallhope built Gulu Construction Island with "Codex (Astra) + Three.js" ("Tiny construction jobs. Treasure ducks in hard hats."). @ToolBraidComp says the racer Spline Rush was "Built in Codex", and that the team asked Astra for a trailer too: "54 seconds. Six tracks. All footage from the actual browser game." The maker of Driftbound wrote on the three.js forum: "I've used substantial coding assistance from ChatGPT/Codex".
Creators also share their methods. @majidmanzarpour open-sourced a three.js "game director skill system for Codex & Claude Code to help agents create more polished playable browser games", covering gameplay loops, graphics, HUD, debugging and QA.
Standout ChatGPT and Codex games on Player1AI
- Flyover: fly anywhere on Earth, from New York to your hometown.
- Cowduction: "a cow pilots a UFO and abducts aliens" (@guibsonvg).
- Misstep: "The grid disappears after your first step. Can you remember the way out?" (@caionasc).
- Sydney Go: explore Sydney as a koala, kangaroo or quokka, each with its own skill, built with Claude and Codex (@Fgambling_).
- Spline Rush: six tracks of browser racing.
- Gulu Construction Island: tiny excavator jobs and hidden ducks.
- Daily Gambit: made to feel like "the sequel to chess".
- WenWare: a Vibe Jam 2026 podium game.
What to expect as a player
These games are free on their creators' sites, and many are early versions that are still changing. Some are made for a keyboard: the maker of Odysseus: Lost Worlds suggests trying it "on desktop", while Misstep plays "on mobile or desktop". Check the Phone tag on each game. Because many creators use more than one AI, some games here also appear on our Claude list.
